Irasburg United Church Statement Faith

We believe the Bible consisting of the Old and New Testament, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in this present troubled world.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life or eternal death.

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.

Adopted by the Irasburg United Church Deacons on January 12, 2014.

Brief Bio of Pastor Avril
Spiritual:
I was brought up in a Catholic household and went to Catholic school as a small girl and knew Bible stories and songs through that. Our family stopped attending when I was in the third grade. During high school I did attend some church services with a friend but nothing stuck. When we moved up from Connecticut to Vermont between my junior and senior year the Lord saw fit to have neighbors who invited us to church. I met my husband in my senior class whose sister-in-law and mother were both Christians and talked to me about the Lord. At UVM, Campus Crusade for Christ had a strong presence and gave me my first New Testament.  While reading one day in John the Lord found me and in February of 1979 at age 18, I became a believer (born-again, as they called it then). I cannot imagine life without the abiding presence of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I continue to learn, grow, change, and am found anew on a regular basis by the Lord! I was ordained as a minister in the Church of the Nazarene in 2003
Education:
After high school I went to Fanny Allen School of Nursing and became an LPN.  Several years later I went to UVM and attained my Associate’s degree in Nursing and became an RN.  I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Johnson State College and a Bachelor’s degree equivalent in Theology at Reynolds Institute.  My Master’s Degree is in Education from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine and I recently graduated with my EdD from Olivet Nazarene University.

Family and Employment:

After coming to Vermont, I met my future husband, Nathan, in my senior class at Craftsbury Academy.  We now have been married 39 years this summer. We have 3 children who are all married to our wonderful ‘other’ children and have 2 grandchildren ages 7 and 3.  My husband is self-employed at our Sporting Goods stores (The Great Outdoors) and I am employed full-time at North Country Hospital as a nurse.
My passions after God are my family and friends, education, alleviating poverty, reading, and nature.
I am so blessed to be a part of the United Church of Irasburg.  The people are warm, welcoming, spiritually open and dedicated to their church and their community.  I look forward to watching God work among us as we all minister to others in the name of Jesus and through the power of His Holy Spirit. Please let us know if there are needs in the community that we may help with.  If you haven’t already and aren’t attending church elsewhere, please join us on Sundays at 09:30 for an hour of worship that includes songs, prayers, praises, fellowship, and the Word of God.  We want our church to be your home where you may grow in spiritual grace and wisdom.

If you would like to contact me, please give us a call at the Irasburg United Church at 754-8448.  As I am a part time Pastor and work full-time, I will do my best to get back to you in a day or two.  And we are always there on Sunday mornings.
